01Why most SaaS SEO engagements stall
A SaaS site’s central entity is usually the job the buyer is trying to get done — not the software itself. Consultants who don’t understand that inversion end up building a topical map around the product, which caps out fast.
I cover the mechanics of this on the SaaS SEO pillar page: buyers research the workflow and the category long before they research any specific vendor, so a map built around “our features, our pricing, our integrations” is structurally thinner than the market opportunity. It also means an SEO consultant who only optimises existing product pages is optimising the smallest, least defensible part of the map.
What I bring instead is a way of mapping the problem space first — the workflow, the decision criteria, the comparisons a buyer runs through in their head — and placing the product pages inside that map as the commercial core, not the whole map.
02What the engagement actually covers
Every SaaS SEO consulting engagement I run has the same backbone, adapted to the category:
This isn’t a content-mill retainer. It’s strategy work — the kind that tells your internal team or agency what to build and in what order, grounded in the same semantic SEO principles behind every page in this knowledge base.
03Who this is for
I typically work with SaaS founders and marketing leads who have already tried the obvious moves — a blog, a handful of comparison pages, some feature-page optimisation — and have hit a ceiling. The pattern I see most often: strong rankings for branded and product-specific terms, but almost no visibility for the category and problem terms that actually bring in new-to-category buyers.
If you’d rather build a SaaS SEO strategy in-house with guidance than hand off execution entirely, see SaaS SEO Strategy — the two engagements share the same underlying framework, just different levels of hands-on delivery.
04Start the conversation
If your SaaS product is stuck ranking only for its own name, that’s usually a topical map problem, not a content-volume problem. Get in touch and I’ll tell you honestly whether the fix is a strategy engagement, a topical map build, or something smaller first.
